Courtney Williams had a huge night scoring 25 points with 10 rebounds and 4 assists in the Connecticut Sun’s 91-87 win over the Phoenix Mercury. Overall the Sun had four players score in double figures. Chiney Ogwumike had 22 points followed by Jasmine Thomas with 14 points and Alyssa Thomas with 11 points.
The Sun’s smothering defense limited the Mercury’s Brittney Griner to only nine field goal attempts. Griner scored 19 points for the evening. Diana Taurasi led all scorers with 28 points. DeWanna Bonner scored 16 points and Angel Robinson scored 10 points.
Both teams shot better than 51 percent from the field but Connecticut was plus-three on the offensive glass and forced 14 Phoenix turnovers while committing just seven.
